How many times have your heard (or said to yourself) “why isn’t there more good intermediate level music for the four-mallet marimbist?” Here it is, in quantity and quality. Twenty-four new pieces in two sets. It’s called the “Well-Tempered Marimbist” (WTM for short), because each of the pieces is in a different key, like Bach’s “Well-Tempered Clavier”. Each piece was written with specific musical and technical challenges in mind. They cover a wide variety of styles and forms – toccatas, arias, and dances in both homophonic and polyphonic settings. The pieces in each set can be combined into all manner of suites of different lengths. Book II is definitely a step or two above the first in terms of musical and technical complexity.
