William Cahn joined the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as principal percussionist after graduating form the Eastman School of Music in 1968.

Tucson Sun was composed in March/April, 2018 for “Tócalo Tucson,” a summer workshop at the University of Arizona’s Fred Fox School of Music, hosted by Dr. Morris Palter, the Director of Percussion Studies.  The quartet is scored for 2 marimbas, vibraphone, and piano.

The composition was inspired by the world’s energy source, the sun, the impact of which is so clearly visible in the great American southwest, where throughout history the region has been home to a succession of cultures.
