An exploration of all things metal. This composition employs pitched metal percussion instruments to create many new timbres and color. Some sections utilize space and time while other sections rely on rhythmic density for layered effects.

Concerto for Timpani, Percussion and Winds was commissioned and composed in 2004 for Robert McCormick and the University of South Florida Percussion Symphonic Wind Ensemble. In this concerto, the solo timpanist, winds and percussion section interact equally in the transformation and development of thematic materials.

The music is very dance-like in quality, going over and over through mostly the same sequence of harmonies while melodic variations are developed. The melodic ideas become more and more like a bird (or flute) singing as the work progresses.
