Inspired by the works of George Hamilton and Joe Green, Clair Omar Musser, Teddy Brown, and the recordings and arrangements made by NEXUS Percussion featuring Bob Becker, ‘A Recipe for Ms. Chalice’ from the hit video game ‘Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course,’ is my homage to those artists.
A feature for xylophone and marimba quartet, with optional string quartet (violin, two violas, cello) and vocal trio, the four marimba accompaniment parts in this piece have been arranged so that players 1 and 2 can share a 4-octave instrument, while players 3 and 4 can share a (preferably) 5-octave instrument, with note options in case only a low F instrument is available. Three separate xylophone parts are included; one [xylophone comp] being the original part with changes included for improvisation, one [xylophone solo] a transcription of Michael Murphy’s fantastic improvised solo as heard on the original soundtrack, and one [xylophone accompaniment] containing any missing parts that would have been covered by the string quartet or vocal trio. The xylophone soloist can choose the part that best fits their ensemble.
I sincerely hope you enjoy ‘A Recipe for Ms. Chalice’!
