This composition written for two marimbas musically depicts three different winter impressions. The piece, through its three movements, evokes imagery of both fluid and frozen water, a landscape with ice trees, and a wild blizzard.

In Twilight, Brostrom focuses on basic ideas of chords and color transformation. An example of this occurs in the opening phrase as chords are passed off from duo to duo. “Twilight” is defined as “the light from the sky between full night and sunrise or between sunset and full night” or simply as “an intermediate state that is not clearly defined.” (Intermediate to Advanced)Duration 6:00.

This marimba part to this version is exactly the same as the original for solo marimba (2010). There are now additional string parts (two violins, viola, and cello) to accompany this solo. An even more beautiful version of one of Stout’s most beautiful compositions.
