Thomas Nazziola
The music of Grammy®-nominated composer Tom Nazziola has been featured on virtually every medium in the world of composition. From “live film music” to choral and orchestral pieces, his work has been performed in France, Ireland, Slovenia, Guatemala, Croatia, and throughout the United States — as well as broadcast nationally and internationally on radio and television. His music has been performed by several contemporary ensembles including: Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra, Bang on a Can, Eastman Percussion Ensemble, Eastman Film and Media Ensemble, VocalEssence, Cantori NY, and the New Jersey Youth Symphony among others. He has also composed pieces for world-renowned artists such as Todd Reynolds. He has recently been selected by New York University to host an evening of his music in the which took place in the spring of 2019. His highly praised film score for “The Golem” was featured on John Schaefer’s “New Sounds” (WNYC) and received a rave review from Peter Travers of Rolling Stone Magazine. In addition to composing, he is also the musical director and orchestrator for The BQE Project, a celebrated New York-based chamber ensemble known for its original compositions performed live-to-film.
Tom has been commissioned by the American Composer’s Forum, Rutgers University Percussion Ensemble, VocalEssence, Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts, Museum of the Moving Image, and the New Jersey Youth Symphony. He has received numerous awards, including Grand Prize/Classic Pure Vienna International Music Competition (2022), Grammy®-nomination for Best Instrumental Composition (2021), “Winner of the 2016 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest for Large Percussion Ensemble,” Winner of Samuel Adler Grand Prize for the 2nd Annual International New Music Competition of Chamber Music | OC (2019), 2009 Bistro Award, and has been featured on several radio stations across the country including: NPR, WNYC, and WCAL. His orchestrations have also found an audience. He is responsible for orchestrating music for the U.S. Open (opening ceremony - 2005 and 2007); and was also commissioned to orchestrate Edward MacDowell’s “Woodland Sketches” for a performance by the New York Philharmonic (featuring Garrison Keillor). He has served as head orchestrator and conductor for Broadway Asia International’s “Race for Love.” Tom is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and holds a masters degree in composition from Brooklyn College. He has recently completed a Ph.D. in composition at Rutgers University under the direction of Christopher Doll and Robert Aldridge.
